How we collect, use and protect your personal information.

British Products Direct is an online directory of British manufacturers, makers and artisans. We are the data controller for personal information collected through this website. If you have questions about how we handle your data, please contact us at hello@britishproductsdirect.com.
We collect personal data in the following circumstances:
When you contact us via our contact form: your name, email address and message content.
When you apply to list your business via our join form: your business name, location, website URL, contact name, email address and phone number.
When you visit the site: standard server log data such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited and time of visit. This data is collected automatically and is used only for security and site performance monitoring.
We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking purposes. We do not collect payment card data directly; any future billing is handled by a third-party payment processor subject to their own privacy policy.
We use the data we collect to respond to your enquiries, process listing applications, manage existing listings, and improve the site. We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
We may share your data with service providers who help us operate the site (such as our web host), but only to the extent necessary and under appropriate data processing agreements.
We process your data on the following legal bases under UK GDPR: contract (where processing is necessary to fulfil a listing agreement), legitimate interests (to respond to enquiries and operate the site securely), and consent (where we ask for your explicit agreement before processing).
Contact form enquiries are retained for up to 12 months. Listing application data is retained for the duration of the listing plus 12 months after termination. Server log data is retained for up to 90 days. You may request deletion of your data at any time (see section 7).
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against accidental loss, unauthorised access or disclosure. Our site is served over HTTPS. However, no internet transmission is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion of your data, object to or restrict processing, and receive your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@britishproductsdirect.com. We will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have not handled your data lawfully.
This site contains links to external websites belonging to listed makers. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their privacy policies before sharing personal information with them.
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. We will notify listed makers of any significant changes by email.
